For those who aren't into extensive journaling you may want to consider using an engagement or planner calendar as a type of journal. My calendar is full of all kinds of information. On a daily basis I record any appointments, bills due, gas prices is I purchased gas, what perfume I wear, any anything else that I consider noteworthy from the day. On the note pages in the back of the planner I have a list of all the books I've read that year and another list of all the movies my husband I have watched that year. It's not as introspective as a normal journal, but it is packed with some interesting information.
My planner, like my journal, travels with me to most locations so I take time every year to hunt for the right planner. This year I'm using a purple leather planner. For next year I've purchased the Anne Taintor Engagement Calendar. No matter what I purchase it has to have plenty of notes pages in the back and a good sized space for each day.
